KARACHI: Meezan Bank Limited has denied the claims of a data breach, reassuring clients that there has been no security breach and that their information is completely secure.
Social media reports claim that unauthorised charges have been made to debit and credit cards on multiple websites, frightening consumers. Meezan Bank responded with a client advisory, flatly rejecting these allegations as untrue. The bank stressed that all of its cards adhere to EMV and 3D Secure standards and are PCI-certified.
“There is news circulating on various social media platforms that peoples’ debit and credit cards are being charged on several website without their consent. We would like to advise our customers to take precautions while using their cards online,” the bank said.
The bank cautioned customers against using their cards on untrustworthy sites where their card information might be compromised. It advised against conducting any banking transactions over public WiFi networks. Even if they seem to be from a reliable website, be wary of phishing emails, messages, or phone calls that request your card information or one-time passwords. Notify the bank right away if your card is lost or stolen.
“Meezan Bank would also like to inform its customers and the general public that rumours regarding a data breach at Meezan Bank are entirely false. Meezan Bank is PCI-certified, and all its cards are EMV and 3D secure complaint,” it said.
“We assure our customers that their data is completely safe with us and there has been no security breach whatsoever,” it added.All disputed transactions reported to the bank recently were unsecured e-commerce transactions, according to the bank.
These transactions are covered under the chargeback mechanism of international payment schemes and are being fully reimbursed to the affected customers.“We are taking all necessary measures to make sure that such customers are compensated as soon as possible. We encourage our customers to confidently use Meezan Bank cards on trusted websites and enjoy the convenience of cashless transactions,” the bank said.
