Gardenia Chapter launches handbook for flower shows

The Gardenia Chapter of the Floral Art Society of Pakistan held a launch on Wednesday for a book titled ‘Handbook for Flower Shows: Designing, Staging, Exhibiting & Judging’ by Amtul Rauf (Oofi) Khan.

The launch also featured a demonstration of the Japanese flower arrangement art Ikebana, along with other floral art displays. The event showcased the author’s dedication to promoting the art of floral design.

The programme was attended by prominent figures, including Japanese Consul General Masaru Hattori, who also shared his thoughts on the book. The author explained that her work aims to advance floral art by guiding enthusiasts in designing, exhibiting and judging floral arrangements.

The book reflects the aesthetic harmony of floral art and evokes the sensory beauty of flowers, making it a valuable resource for floral artists and enthusiasts alike. The attendees also paid tribute to the late Zareen Patel, a renowned floral artist, acknowledging her contributions to the field. They celebrated the beauty and craft of floral art while fostering an appreciation for its cultural and artistic significance.

The Japanese CG said floral art is a cultural expression deeply infused with emotions. He said the creativity in Ikebana and floral art is truly remarkable. Speaking on Karachi, he said the city is a blend of diverse cultures.

“I extend my congratulations to the author on the launch of her book,” he said, adding that the cultural exchange between Pakistan and Japan is commendable. “It is heartening to see the ancient Japanese art of Ikebana being appreciated in Pakistan.”
