The right of women to inheritance plays a significant role in their socioeconomic empowerment. However, in Pakistan, women are often deprived of this fundamental right. Such cases frequently arise after a father’s death, where sons falsely claim to have received the property as a gift. Unsurprisingly, Pakistan fares poorly on global gender indices, particularly concerning women's inheritance. To eradicate myopic views on the status of women and deprivation from inheritance, country-wide campaigns must be initiated. The state should send an unequivocal message that women's right to inheritance is not a luxury conferred by men but a fundamental right guaranteed by the constitution.
