SUKKUR: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, while inaugurating the new C-ARTS Unit, urged all provinces to prioritise national progress instead of political point-scoring, stating that working together is essential for the betterment of the country.

Talking to the media, Shah said that he was unaware of whether PTI had called for civil disobedience or withdrawn it. “I am focused on my work and paying attention to the issues at hand.”

He stressed the importance of unity among all provinces for the betterment of the country. “We should prioritise the nation’s progress instead of focusing on sending anyone to jail,” he remarked.

The CM announced plans to relocate the Anti-Encroachment Court from the Autism Centre to a more suitable location. “If necessary, even the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner should vacate their offices to accommodate the court, but the building where the courts are housed is meant for the children with Autism,” he added.

On the issue of water distribution, he mentioned that the canal disputes are under review by the Council of Common Interests (CCI). “No work is currently being carried out on the canals,” he said. Replying to a question, Syed Murad Ali Shah emphasised that recruitments are being made strictly on merit. Referring to viral social media videos, he said, “I have seen videos of people lining up for jobs, but merit is being upheld in all cases.”

The CM also paid tribute to the late journalist Jan Muhammad, saying, “We have not forgotten and will never forget the sacrifice of Shaheed Jan Muhammad.”

He said that the constitution does not allow changes in the NFC award. The award should be announced after every five years, but unfortunately, no new award has been announced for 15 years.

Regarding the construction of six canals on the Indus River, including Cholistan, the chief minister said that the Sindh government and the party’s stand on this issue is clear, but the federal government has not yet made any progress on the project.

Earlier, Murad Ali Shah on Monday lauded Sukkur IBA University for its significant contributions to education, calling it a “model institution” that is setting new standards for higher learning in the province.
