ALPURI: An assistant sub-inspector and head constable were martyred and three other cops sustained injuries when terrorists targeted the Gananagar Police Post with rockets and hand grenades in the dead of night, local and official sources said on Tuesday.
They said after attacking the Gananagar Police Post with rockets and hand grenades, the terrorists also opened fire on the police post, which continued for two hours.
As a result, ASI Muhammad Hassan and Head Constable Nisar Ahmad were martyred, and three of their fellow constables sustained injuries.
After the attack on the police post, announcements were made in local mosques and residents were asked to come out of their homes with arms and assist the police against the terrorists.
It was learnt said that Head Constable Nisar Ahmad had sustained serious injuries on his head and embraced martyrdom at the spot while ASI Hassan was critically injured.
The residents immediately shifted him to the District Headquarters Hospital in Battagram, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The three injured constables identified as Arshad Iqbal, Arshad Ali and Riffat were also shifted to the Battagram Hospital, where their condition was stated to be stable.
