RAWALPINDI: PTI founder Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan said Tuesday the party’s founder had put the civil disobedience campaign on hold for now, claiming the overseas Pakistanis are willing to stop sending remittances to Pakistan voluntarily.

Speaking to media outside the Adiala Jail here on Tuesday after meeting Imran Khan, she conveyed his warning that if his two demands were not met, he would call for halting remittances from overseas Pakistanis.

“Ten buildings were burned, and yet 10,000 people were arrested. Did so many people burn those buildings?” she questioned. She emphasized that on February 8, the public rejected the oppressive system, but on February 9, their votes were stolen to impose a “fake government.”

She condemned crackdown on the PTI’s peaceful protest on November 24 for the rule of law, alleging that people were fired upon and innocent civilians were killed under the cover of darkness. She claimed to have witnessed firing on November 26 protesters .

She revealed that Imran was deeply distressed but remained resolute. His demands include establishment of a judicial commission comprising three senior supreme court judges and release of innocent detainees. She warned if these demands were not met, Imran would appeal to overseas Pakistanis to stop sending remittances to Pakistan. “Overseas Pakistanis are already calling and asking why we haven’t announced this yet. They are ready to stop their remittances,” she claimed. However, PTI members have urged Imran to delay this move, arguing it can harm the country. In response, Imran Khan has said, “I care for the country and will wait a little longer.”

She concluded with a clear warning, reiterating Imran’s stance: “If my two demands are not met, I will absolutely call for stopping remittances.”
