This refers to the letter ‘Limited paths’ (December 10, 2024) by Moin Ahmed Awan. It is true that most male students are pushed into the medical or engineering fields by their parents. However, when it comes to girls, they appear to have even fewer options. Most families want their daughters to study medicine above all else.
The idea that only medicine and engineering can provide students with a sustainable future is rather archaic and stifles the development and opportunities of young people. Students should be allowed to chart their own fields of studies and career paths based on their own strengths and interests, free from family pressure.
