ISLAMABAD/RAWALPINDI: The Punjab Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has provided information to the higher authorities that on December 16, the banned terrorist organization Jamaat-ul-Ahrar may carry out terrorist acts similar to the Army Public School (APS) attacks in the cities of Lahore, Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
The report further reveals that a team of terrorists, consisting of 10 members, six of whom are suicide bombers, may carry out the terrorist act. Terrorists can also target military installations, law enforcement agencies and educational institutions.
Relevant departments and law enforcement agencies have been instructed to begin vigorous patrolling and surveillance. Educational institutions in Lahore, Rawalpindi and Islamabad were also closed on this information.
According to the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, educational institutions have been closed in memory of the martyrs of Army Public School Peshawar (APS). The decision to declare a holiday in educational institutions was taken after reviewing the law & order situation in a meeting of the District Intelligence Committee.
When contacted, the spokesperson of IG Islamabad said that there is no security alert in Islamabad, but the police and other security agencies are performing their duties as usual.
While, on the orders of CPO Rawalpindi, instructions have been issued to ensure the security of all important buildings, sensitive places and educational institutions across the district. According to administrative sources, complete security arrangements have been made. The decision to declare holiday today (Monday) was taken to avoid any possible untoward situation.
Special security arrangements were taken after the threat alert issued by intelligence agency.
