Repair work on the 84-inch-diameter main water line on University Road will begin on Monday (today) and is expected to continue for the next 72 hours on a round-the-clock basis, according to a press statement.
The Karachi Water & Sewerage Corporation’s (KWSC) administration has made the assurance that water supply to the city would likely be restored by Wednesday evening. KWSC CEO Engr Syed Salahuddin Ahmed visited University Road to inspect the water line, and was briefed in detail by the WTM chief engineer regarding the repair work.
During the visit, Ahmed instructed the officials to continue the repair work round the clock to ensure it is completed within the stipulated time. He emphasised that the repair work is being carried out on an emergency basis, and their primary objective is to restore the water supply by Wednesday evening.
He also clarified that the delay in the repair work was due to the need for sustainable solutions that would prevent future disruptions, ensuring the smooth operation of ongoing projects like the bus rapid transit system, and minimising inconvenience to the public.
According to the KWSC spokesperson, siphon 19 on University Road consists of three 84-inch-diameter pipes, out of which only one pipe would undergo repairs. Water supply will continue through the other two parallel pipes.
However, due to the repair work, water supply will be partially suspended in areas such as Lyari, Clifton, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Jamshed Town and the old city areas. The spokesperson urged residents to store water and use it with care to avoid any inconvenience during the
repair period.
