Gulistan-e-Jauhar has been witnessing a sharp increase in robberies, forcing residents to take matters into their own hands. Two such incidents on Sunday left as many people injured as a result.

A resident shot a suspect in Block 3 of the neighbourhood when two men attempted to mug him. The resident, Sabih, retaliated by firing his pistol and injuring one of the suspects, Asad Abbasi, but the other escaped.

Locals caught the injured man and beat him up before handing him over to the police. The injured suspect was taken to a hospital for treatment. Separately, a resident used his car to attack suspected robbers near Kamran Chowrangi in Block 4, but got injured himself in the attempt. Syed Hamid Ali Rizvi was driving his car when the suspects tried to rob him.

Rizvi rammed his car into the suspects’ motorbike, but they opened fire on him and wounded him. After hearing the gunshots, patrolling police officers arrived on the scene. The suspects got into a gunfight with the police before before fleeing, leaving behind their weapons. Police launched a search operation in the locality to arrest them.

On Friday robbers had gunned down Fahad Hussain, a motorbike rider for a private company and a YouTuber, during a mobile snatching attempt near Munawar Chowrangi in the neighbourhood.
