This letter refers to the editorial ‘Back to civil disobedience’ (December 7, 2024). I would like to add that the current political status of the PTI has been significantly affected by challenges in its second-tier leadership. After the events of May 9, 2023, many second-tier leaders either distanced themselves or left the party under political or other pressures. This further depleted the PTI's mid-level leadership, leaving it less equipped to manage grassroots mobilisation and parliamentary politics. The absence of robust second-tier leadership has left the party unable to navigate the current political challenges effectively. To regain its footing, the PTI needs to rebuild its organisational structure from the grassroots, empowering credible second-tier leaders and reducing over-reliance on any one individual, including Imran Khan.
