Federal govt sets up courts for welfare, protection of lawyers

Notification says federal government is pleased to designate courts to try offences under the Act

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has approved the establishment of courts across the country for protection of lawyers under Section 5(1) of the Lawyers Welfare and Protection Act, 2023 and designated senior most Additional District and Sessions Judge and Senior Civil Judge to try offences falling within respective jurisdiction.

In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 5(1) of the Lawyers Welfare Protection Act, 2023, the federal government, in consultation with the chief justices of respective high courts, is pleased to designate courts to try offences under the Act, says a notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice issued on December 13.

These courts have been established in Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan and senior most Additional District and Sessions Judges designated to these courts.
