LAHORE: Pakistan’s Imad Wasim has announced his retirement from international cricket, bringing an end to a career that spanned nearly a decade. The 35-year-old cricketer revealed the decision on his social media, expressing gratitude to fans and reflecting on his journey in the national team.

Imad, who made his international debut in 2015 against Zimbabwe, played 130 international matches across all formats, scoring 1,540 runs and taking 117 wickets. He was a key figure in Pakistan’s triumph at the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy, serving as the team’s vice-captain during their historic win.

In his farewell message, Imad wrote: “Representing Pakistan on the world stage has been the greatest honor of my life, and every moment wearing the green jersey has been unforgettable. Your unwavering support, love, and passion have always been my biggest strength.”

Imad last represented Pakistan in the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, held in the Caribbean. Pakistan endured a disappointing campaign, failing to secure a Super 8 berth after losing to the United States.

Following the tournament, Imad was overlooked, leading to his decision to step away from international cricket. This is not the first time Imad has retired from international cricket. He briefly stepped away last year but was persuaded to return due to his sensational performances in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Representing Islamabad United, he was named Player of the Match in all three playoff games, guiding his team to the championship. Imad has committed to continuing his career in domestic and franchise cricket worldwide. “While this chapter comes to an end, I look forward to continuing my journey in cricket through domestic and franchise cricket, and I hope to keep entertaining you all in new ways,” Imad assured fans.
