Unstoppable rise
Every recent president of the US has identified China as America’s primary threat and has acted to curb its economic rise. President Biden also took the next step towards trying to handicap China’s growth by denying its access to the most advanced microchips and the machinery used to design them. On the other hand, China is focused on its own development of these goods and experts estimate that it is only a few years behind bridging the gap with the US. It is also fact that China is, by far, the global leader in electric vehicles and clean energy.
The only way for American companies to not only compete today but to survive is by using tariffs and other barriers. China is now two thirds the size of the US economy; no other nation has even come close. It will not be easy for the US to stop China from rising further given the pace at which the latter has boomed.
