In the aftermath of the downfall of the Assad dynasty in Syria, many, both in the Muslim world and elsewhere, are making overly optimistic prognoses of what Syria’s future is going to look like. They imagine that the country’s condition will improve and that it will become a functioning democracy. I do not think that it will be quite so simple. The post-Assad power scenario includes many different actors and groups, all with their own motivations and interests. Getting all these different players on the same page will prove to be quite difficult and maybe even impossible. What we have right now is basically a power vacuum, which external forces like Israel are all too eager to exploit.
The Zionist state is currently engaged in destroying Syria’s military infrastructure in order to ensure that whoever is in charge or ends up in charge is too weak to exercise any real power. Keeping all this in mind, I predict that a new chaos and disturbance is waiting for the Syrian people. This revolution in Syria does not seem like an ispiring victory of democracy, humanity and freedom.
