KOHAT: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Wednesday criticised the provincial government for failing to reopen the Kohat-Kurram Road and called for continued support for the affected people of Kurram district.
He was talking to reporters during a brief visit to Kohat. The governor inaugurated a 3-megawatt solar power system at Kohat Textile Mills during his visit.
He expressed concern over the provincial government’s inability to restore connectivity via the Kohat-Kurram Road. He said that efforts were being made to provide relief to displaced individuals, including tents, blankets, and food supplies.
Governor Kundi urged the provincial government to expedite the resolution of the dispute in Kurram through local jirgas, highlighting the importance of these efforts in stabilizing law and order. He added that he was closely monitoring the progress of these jirgas with updates from the district administration.
“The federal government is taking measures to restore peace and stability in Kurram,” he said. Governor Kundi reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to addressing the challenges faced by the people of Kurram.
The governor also lauded the federal government’s initiative to promote solar energy by waiving taxes on solar panels and added that this would help address power shortages and reduce loadshedding across the country. He said that there was a growing trend of installing solar systems in factories and industries, adding that this shift was a testament to the success of government policies.
Former senator Salim Saifullah, Asad Khan Saifullah, Kohat Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Rashid Paracha, local elders, district administration officials, and business leaders from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab were also present.
