Islamabad: Ruling out the possibility of a good spell of rain in the next few days for most parts of the country, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has said the current cold wave is here to stay.
According to it, continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country, while a shallow westerly wave is affecting extreme northern parts, causing a cold wave to sweep through the entire region. It said mainly cold and dry weather was expected in most parts of the country and a very cold one in hilly areas today (Thursday). Light rain and snowfall is expected at isolated places in Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Jammu and Kashmir during daytime. Light rain and snowfall is likely to be witnessed in Murree and Galiyat in the morning. The PMD warned frost could occur at few places in Islamabad, upper Punjab and plain areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during morning hours, while shallow fog was likely to be seen at few places in central and southern Punjab and upper Sindh in the morning.
As for the past 24 Hour Weather, the department said cold and dry weather prevailed in most parts of the country, while very cold in hilly areas, while isolated rain and snowfall occurred in Gilgit-Baltistan. Astore in GB recorded one inch snowfall.
