RAWALPINDI: Non-bailable arrest warrants for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi in £190 million and Toshakhana-II cases were suspended on Monday after she appeared in the accountability court.
Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi appeared in court, established in Adiala jail, and recorded their statements under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code(CrPC) in £190m case. Accountability Court Judge Nasir Javed Rana suspended non-bailable arrest warrants for Bushra Bibi in £190 million case, and adjourned the hearing until Dec 12.
During the hearing, Imran Khan informed the court that he intended to present witnesses in his defence, while Bushra Bibi stated that she did not wish to present any witnesses. Earlier, the court had ordered for arrest of Bushra Bibi in the £190 million reference for not appearing in the court.
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) had already granted bail to PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the £190 million National Crime Agency (NCA) settlement reference. A two-member bench, comprising IHC CJ Aamer Farooq and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri, directed the authorities concerned in its short order to release the PTI founder against the surety bond of Rs1 million.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had launched an investigation against Imran Khan and his wife and others for the alleged gains of hundreds of kanals of land in the name of Al Qadir University Trust, which reportedly caused a loss of £190 million to the national exchequer.
As per the charges, the former prime minister and other accused allegedly adjusted Rs50 billion (£190 million) at the time sent by Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA) to the government.
On the other hand, Special Judge Central Shahrukh Arjumand once again postponed indictment in Toshakhana-II case, involving Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi. The hearing, held in Adiala jail on Monday, was presided over by Special Judge Central Shahrukh Arjumand, but no charges were formally filed.
The court deferred the indictment until December 12, while Bushra Bibi’s arrest warrant was cancelled following her appearance in court. The court also provided the FIA with copies of the investigation report at the request of the defendants.
Bushra Bibi had received the Bulgari jewellery set during a visit to Saudi Arabia from May 7 to 10, 2021. The set included a ring, a bracelet, a necklace, and a pair of earrings. During the investigation for the reference, it was found that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi illegally retained the Bulgari jewellery set. According to charges in Toshakhana-II case, Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi violated Section 9 and subsections 3, 4, 6, and 12 of the NAB Ordinance 1999.
