Suspect booked for embezzling Rs3.5m by using minister’s name

LAHORE:Police registered a case against a suspect for embezzling Rs3.5 million by using the name of Punjab's Information Minister.

The Qila Gujjar Singh Police registered a case against the suspect, Burhan Asif, on the complaint of the Minister’s Personal Staff Officer (PSO), Zakaullah. The police registered an FIR under sections 408, 504, and 506 of the Pakistan Penal Code. The FIR states that Burhan Asif exploited the name of the provincial minister to illegally obtain funds. The accused allegedly defrauded Nadeem Akbar, a property owner, of Rs3.5 million. Furthermore, Asif is accused of collecting Rs1.4 million under the pretext of it being for the Information Minister. Authorities have launched legal proceedings against the accused and are continuing their investigation. Police said that that efforts are under way to trace the embezzled money and ascertain whether there were others involved in the scam.

Harasser arrested

Lytton Road Police have arrested a man who allegedly harassed a young woman at gunpoint, attempting to force her into marriage. The suspect, identified as Umair, was apprehended following a response to a distress call made by the victim to emergency services.

According to the police, the incident occurred when the accused confronted the girl and threatened her with a 30-bore pistol, demanding that she marry him. Acting on a call to 15, police arrived at the scene and arrested the suspect.
