Rawalpindi: The local administration has given a free hand of transporters (local and long routes) to loot public with both hands because they have increased fare according to their wish. Federal government increased petrol prices by Rs3.72 but local and long route transporters increased fares too much.

The long route transporters have increased fare by 20 t0 25 per cent while local transporters they were already charging Rs50 stop-to-stop increased fare by Rs5 to Rs10. The transporters had increased fares by own without any permission of local administration, Rawalpindi.

It is worth mentioning here that local and long route transporters were already charging huge fares and once again increased fares in excuse of POL prices. They do not reducing fares at the time of reduction in POL prices but increase fares in a fast pace when government increased fares.

The District Regional Transport Authority (DRTA) spokesman Rana Sadaqat Ali told ‘The News’ that department did not issue any kind of fare increase notification. ‘We have started taking strict action against local and long route transporters they were looting public,’ he warned. He also said that transporters filed an application to increase fare which was rejected by (DRTA) Secretary Rashid Ali. Transporters could not increase fare by own, he claimed.
