The PIA was banned by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency due to a careless statement by a former aviation minister. The damage caused by this statement was particularly painful for the middle classes, who ended up paying higher fares and also spending more time during travel. More importantly, the statement damaged the country by bleeding our weak economy even further. I would place a very high value on the restoration of PIA routes.
If at all possible, the government should shed all dead weight dragging down the PIA by reducing overhead costs, reducing the number of employees per plane, and doing all else possible to turn around the national flag career. If the government succeeds in doing this, as they have in lifting the EU ban on PIA flights, it will be a big help for Pakistan.
