This refers to the letter ‘Emotional capital’ (December 4, 2024) by Farrukh Shahab. The writer claims that the PTI and the PPP are the ones most likely to govern Pakistan in the future because the people have made such a high emotional investment in these two entities and that the same cannot be said for the Shehbaz Sharif-led PML-N. Emotional capital may be a good thing but in today’s rapidly changing world, rational capital may be a far better commodity to pursue and search for.
The present regime is a ‘rational regime’ or is at least trying to be one. We know the stakes are very high and that we are lagging behind nearly every state in key indicators. Therefore, it makes sense that we should invest in and support a strong, agenda-driven, rational regime for the sake of the long-term prosperity and development of this country. We have to shed the ‘emotional baggage’ that we have been carrying for far too long.
