KARACHI: Pakistan’s Hamza Khan moved into the pre-quarterfinals of the $15000 Madeira International in Portugal on Thursday. Hamza Khan, world junior champion in 2023, beat the experienced Elliott Morris 11-7, 13-11, 10-12, 11-6 in the first round.
The young Pakistani player showed a high level of squash against the Wales player and proved that he must be counted on for a presence in the decisive moments of the competition. “First of all I want to thank my coaches and my parents for always being there and supporting me. It was a tough game, but luckily I managed to win. I always try to do my best in every tournament and this will be no different. Let’s see”, said Hamza.
Winning the world junior title in 2023 is an unavoidable milestone in the career of the still young player. “I was obviously very pleased. After 37 years, Pakistan once again won the title of world junior champion. It was an honor for me and an honor for my country”, assured the Pakistani player. Now, Hamza is up against fifth seed Lwamba Chileshe from New Zealand in the second round.
