ISLAMABAD: As the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) continues to resist Pakistan’s proposed reciprocal hybrid model for hosting the 2025 Champions Trophy, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is set to meet with media rights holders on Thursday (today) to determine the future course of action.
The ICC plans to consult with media stakeholders before finalising its strategy for the Champions Trophy and other upcoming ICC events.
The hybrid model proposed by Pakistan seeks to ensure that both nations play their ICC matches at neutral venues over the next three years, a move aimed at addressing the ongoing political and logistical challenges.
However, reports from India suggest that the BCCI does not agree to the arrangement.
Sources confirmed to The News that the BCCI has formally communicated its reluctance to endorse the model, creating uncertainty over the tournament’s fate.
The ICC now faces several options, including postponing the event, shifting it to a neutral venue, or proceeding without India’s participation — a decision that could significantly impact the tournament’s financial viability. A final course of action may also involve putting the matter to a vote at the ICC Board meeting.
As the clock ticks down, the ICC’s decision could shape the future of international cricket and its marquee events in the coming years.
