ISLAMABAD: The majority of Pakistanis are ready to play their role in ending the smog, a survey by Ipsos Pakistan shows.
Some 1,000 people from across the country participated in the survey. The survey was conducted between November 18 and 22 last month.
When asked what they would personally do to end the smog, 48 percent of Pakistanis expressed their willingness to walk for short distances, 31pc would use public transport or carpool instead of their car. Twenty-nine percent would use bicycles, 12pc would replace their old car with a new one and 10pc would buy an electric or hybrid vehicle. Seven percent said they would replace the old engine of their car and bike with an electric engine, while 6pc expressed their intention to use other renewable energy options, including solar, to eliminate the smog.
Twelve percent mentioned other measures, while 2pc refrained from giving any opinion on this question.
Would you cooperate if the government asks you to get a fitness certificate for your vehicle? Responding to this question, 89 percent said they would cooperate. However, 5pc refused to cooperate with the government. Six percent said they cannot say anything about it yet.
