ISLAMABAD: The Senate Secretariat Wednesday wrote to the Supreme Court registrar for notification of PTI’s Barrister Syed Ali Zafar as a member of the Judicial Commission following the resignation of Syed Shibli Faraz.

Shibli, who is the Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, has resigned and nominated the party’s parliamentary leader in the Upper House of Parliament Ali Zafar for the membership.

The additional secretary Senate wrote to the apex court registrar about Shibli’s resignation and Ali Zafar’s nomination in his place.

On the direction of PTI founder chairman Imran Khan, Shibli bowed out as the commission member. Already, the Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly and senior party leader Omar Ayub Khan has stepped down from the membership of the commission, citing filing of multiple cases against him. Omar Ayub has nominated the party chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan to represent the party in the commission.

Separately, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, who had resigned from the party post and then withdrew his resignation on the leadership’s direction, clarified that there were no differences between him and Bushra Bibi.

Talking to the media at the Islamabad High Court here, he explained that his resignation was an internal matter of the party and was not related to any personal difference. “Cases are being made against us in a row and this is now a test of our judicial system,” he maintained.

He emphasized that his party will continue to fight a legal battle along with the political war. He pointed out that his legal team was reviewing hundreds of cases of workers and that their remand will be challenged.
