ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh Syed Ahmed Maroof had an important meeting with former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia in Dhaka Tuesday evening at her residence in Gulshan.
Diplomatic sources told The News here Tuesday evening that the high commissioner conveyed greetings of President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to her. She reciprocated the sentiments.
Begum Khaleda Zia is the chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) while the two sides termed it as a courtesy call that continued for 90 minutes.
BNP leader Professor Dr. Zahid Hossain and Organizational Secretary Shama Obaid were also present.
Dr. Zahid Hossain told the media that the high commissioner discussed various issues with the BNP chairperson. He highlighted the contribution of the late General Ziaur Rahman for Bangladesh and expressed Pakistan’s desire to elevate its relationship with Bangladesh to new heights.
Pakistan and Bangladesh enjoyed extremely cordial ties during Begum Khaleda Zia’s government.
