Addl IG Javed Alam Odho claimed in a media briefing at the Karachi Police Office on Tuesday that crime in the city has decreased, and that the Sindh police are on a progressive mission.
In collaboration with Community Police Karachi chief Murad Soni and the Meezan Bank, city police chief Odho distributed 25 new motorbikes among policewomen posted in different units of the Karachi Range.
Odho said the motorbike supply project aims to make police presence in the city more effective, prevent crime and ensure public safety. After receiving the motorbikes, the policewomen expressed their commitment to perform their duties with more dedication and responsibility to serve and protect the public.
Odho said the Karachi police would continue to strive for people’s safety and establishing peace. The Meezan Bank’s goal to provide the 25 motorbikes to the Karachi police was female empowerment.
Soni said the purpose of giving automatic motorbikes to policewomen was to make them more autonomous. He said the female officers would also perform their duties on motorbikes and provide professional services.
The Meezan Bank’s representative said he has done a lot of work for women’s empowerment. “Women have as much role as men in the Sindh police. It was a small effort, and we’ll increase it further.”
Odho said many problems would be solved after providing motorbikes to policewomen. “We’re also trying to help private institutions improve the police. Today we have distributed 25 automatic motorbikes to 25 lady constables.” He said travelling is a big problem in Karachi, and female officers face a lot of difficulties in commuting. “Women work side by side with men in every field.”
