MANSEHRA: Tehreek-i-Sooba Hazara chairman Sardar Muhammad Yousuf on Tuesday said that the creation of more federating units was the need of the hour.

“If the federal government wants to address the socio-economic issues faced by the people, it should initiate comprehensive legislation in the National Assembly and Senate to establish more federating units,” he said while speaking at a function in Oghi.

The MNA said that the creation of more federating units should be based on administrative grounds rather than linguistic or ethnic lines.Sardar Yousuf said that their peaceful struggle for the establishment of a Hazara province has been ongoing for nearly three decades.

“In 2010, the people of Hazara division made sacrifices for a separate province,” he added.Sardar Yousuf, who is also the central vice-president of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) and a former federal minister for religious affairs said that Hazara Tehreek, after consulting with parliamentary leaders of various political and religious parties, had submitted draft resolutions for the Hazara province in upper and lower houses of parliament.

“We are optimistic that the National Assembly and Senate will adopt the Hazara province resolutions, as we have already discussed this issue with parliamentary leaders of parties represented in both houses,” he added. The former federal minister pointed out that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly had twice passed resolutions supporting the Hazara province.

“Political parties should respect the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly’s resolutions, debate the matter in the National Assembly and Senate, and ensure the creation of more federating units, particularly the Hazara province,” he urged.
