WASHINGTON: US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller has urged Pakistan to exercise restraint and engage with the protesters respectfully, emphasising the importance of upholding democratic principles and protecting human rights during demonstrations.
The spokesperson also called for all protests to be held peacefully, without violence or destruction of property, and by the law, to ensure the safety of all participants and bystanders.Addressing the weekly press briefing, State Department
Spokesperson Matthew Miller said: “Protests around the world should be held peacefully” and advised the government of Pakistan to engage with the protesters with respect. Regarding the cooperation against terrorism, he said: “We stand with Pakistan in the fight against terrorism and extremism.”
He refrained from giving a position on President-elect Donald Trump’s “threats” to allied countries. On concerns over the assassination of Sikh leaders by India, he said: “We have been discussing the conspiracy to assassinate the Sikh leader with Indian counterparts.”
