ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) leaders said on Monday that Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), during his meeting with the bar delegation, expressed his resolve for early fixation of all types of bail applications soon after their filing, and also agreed on restoration of the chamber hearing of the interim applications and stay matters.

SCBA President Mian Muhammad Rauf Atta and General Secretary Salman Mansoor met CJP Yahya Afridi and discussed the challenges facing the legal fraternity in the process of swift dispensation of justice at the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

The chief justice acceded to various requests of the bar, and made it clear that throughout the week, judges nominated by the SC would be hearing cases in chamber. On the SCBA leaderships’ request, the chief justice agreed to increase the number of judges assigned to chamber appeals to further expedite the process.

The CJP also acceded to the request of the SCBA that all applications requesting a video link would be entertained on the same day of the hearing of cases at the respective registries. “This initiative is aimed at facilitating lawyers, minimising delays, and reducing the need for adjournments, particularly for those practising in distant regions,” says a press release issued here.

Regarding timely provision of certified copies, the CJP outlined that the system was being revamped, as the digitization initiative was underway to streamline operations and improve service delivery.

In response to concerns about file tracking and accessibility, particularly for lawyers from remote areas, the chief justice desired that all advocates of the Supreme Court should provide their designated emails and WhatsApp numbers in the office so that provisions of filing petitions directly online and issuance of certified copies and notices etc., be expedited.

Meanwhile, the SCBA leadership expressed appreciation for the proactive measures and reaffirmed their support for initiatives that enhance the efficiency and accessibility of the justice system. The CJP reiterated his commitment to address the challenges faced by the legal community and ensure smooth administration of justice.
