PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department has confirmed eight new cases of chikungunya in the provincial capital, bringing the total number of reported cases in the province to 14.
This marks a sharp increase after six cases were initially reported, with the Health authorities ramping up efforts to trace contacts and control the spread of the mosquito-borne virus. The recent surge was detected through rigorous contact tracing conducted by the health department.
Officials urged the public to adopt precautionary measures, including eliminating mosquito breeding sites and using insect repellents, to prevent further transmission.
Chikungunya, a viral disease spread by infected mosquitoes, causes symptoms such as fever, severe joint pain, and rash. Although not typically fatal, it poses significant health risks, particularly to vulnerable populations. The health officials emphasized the importance of prompt medical attention for suspected cases and advised those affected to strictly follow preventive guidelines.
