The European Union (EU)-funded Poverty Alleviation & Inclusive Development across Rural Sindh (PAIDAR) programme, implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), has marked 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence with a transformative series of financial literacy workshops across target districts in Sindh.

In collaboration with local partners, these workshops empowered women with essential financial skills while championing the global message of #NoExcuse for violence against women. Held from November 25 till November 30, the workshops were part of a larger initiative supporting PAIDAR micro-grants open until December 20. Offering grants of up to EUR10,000, the programme aims to uplift micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Sindh for generating income and reducing poverty.

From the coastal villages of Thatta and Sujawal to the arid lands of Tharparkar and Badin, the sessions were alive with engagement. Women entrepreneurs gained practical tools for income management, saving and business growth, while creative tableaux performances reinforced the campaign’s message of empowerment and resilience.

In Mithi, Tharparkar, the participation of men alongside women in a role-play exercise stood out, showcasing how gender collaboration could drive community progress and shared prosperity. The campaign concluded in Larkana, celebrating women-led businesses and inspiring financial independence.

UNIDO's National Programme Coordinator for PAIDAR programme Badarul Islam shared, “The 16 Days of Activism is a powerful reminder of the work needed to build inclusive, safe, and economically resilient communities. These workshops are about equipping individuals with tools to break barriers, challenge harmful norms, and create sustainable futures for all. UNIDO will support the communities of Sindh, especially women, technically and financially under PAIDAR on access to finance through grants for improved livelihoods and sustainable growth.”
