Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has reiterated the resolve of his government to empower the women in Sindh by educating them and involving them in the process of the development of the province.

The CM reaffirmed the commitment of his government to the cause of women’s empowerment in his message issued on Sunday to greet the natives of the province on Sindhi Culture Day.

He also appealed to the youth in the province to acquire modern education, and vocational skills, and adopt the hobby of book reading. “We should help each other and also lend support to the government for a prosperous Sindh,” he said.

He said Sindh would be developed to assume a leadership role in the modern era. “It is our resolve to make Sindh a bastion of peace and revive the era of the glory of Sindh’s civilization,” he asserted.

The CM remarked that commemorating the day to highlight Sindh’s civilisation was a pleasant act. “It is an honour for me that my family got the opportunity several times to serve Sindh,” Shah said while referring to the fact that he had been serving as Sindh’s chief executive for the third consecutive time while earlier in 1990s, his father Abdullah Shah also served as the CM.

He said that it was a matter of pride for him that he was a native of the land of Sufi saints. He added that hospitality was an integral part of Sindh’s tradition. “Sindh stands for peace, love and fraternal sentiments,” he said.

He said that any nation was recognised on the basis of its culture. He greeted the heirs of great Sindhi civilisation living all over the world on their cultural day. Meanwhile, speaking at a central programme held outside the Karachi Press Club to mark Sindhi Culture Day, Sindh Culture Minister Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah reiterated the resolve of the provincial government to continue holding events to promote and highlight the rich cultural heritage of the province.

He said the natives of Sindh were always peace-loving people and they followed in the footsteps of the noble Sufi saints of this land. He said the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party would never ever support any project, which could harm the interest of the natives of Sindh. He said the PPP would continue to represent the true sentiments of the people of Sindh.

IGP’s address

The Sindh inspector general of police (IGP), Ghulam Nabi Memon, also addressed an event organised at the Central Police Office (CPO) on the occasion of Sindhi Culture Day, adds Salis bin Perwaiz.

Addressing the ceremony, he said the 5,000-year-old culture of Sindh was all about peace, tolerance and hospitality. The land of Sindh had not only given shelter to the people of all the provinces but also to the people of other countries, he remarked adding that the purpose of celebrating Sindhi Culture Day at the CPO was to remand the police force that the primary responsibility of the police was to control crime and strengthen law and order. He said the enemies had been trying to sabotage peace, but the police and people had always defeated them.
