Islamabad:The Clean and Green Islamabad (CGI) Movement launched a proactive cleanliness drive in the parks of the federal capital, starting with Fatima Jinnah F-9 Park on Sunday, says a press release.

Chairman of the CGI Movement, Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari, along with his team, led the initiative by actively participating in cleaning the park using specialized waste-picker sticks, aiming to make Islamabad cleaner and greener. The CGI team, donned in designated uniforms and equipped with waste-picking tools, collected garbage and filled approximately ten large biodegradable waste bags. Additionally, they distributed awareness pamphlets and encouraged park visitors to join the campaign, spreading the message of environmental responsibility.

Prominent individuals who participated in the campaign included Rubina Nasir, Assistant Vice President of First Women Bank, as well as Fatima Hassan, Sobia, Ayesha, Zia Chaudhry, Owais Malik, Shahbaz Chauhan, and others. Addressing the participants, Chairman Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari stressed the importance of cleanliness as a communal duty: “Cleanliness is half of faith, and it is our collective responsibility to maintain a clean environment. Citizens should refrain from littering parks and public spaces, instead carrying waste bags for proper disposal. Food wrappers and trash should be placed in bins, not scattered carelessly. This campaign is not just an event but an effort to instill eco-friendly habits among our people.”

Bakhtawari pointed out that a significant portion of the garbage collected consisted of plastic bags, which pose serious threats to health and the environment. He urged citizens to adopt biodegradable alternatives and emphasized the urgent need to eliminate the use of plastic bags. He further added: “Improving the environment and safeguarding health requires collective participation in tree-planting drives, cleanliness campaigns, and awareness initiatives. By doing so, we can ensure a better future for our city and the generations to come.”

The CGI Movement’s campaign underscores its commitment to environmental conservation and serves as a call to action for citizens to take ownership of keeping Islamabad clean and green.
