ISLAMABAD: Salman Ali Agha, the stand-in captain for Pakistan’s T20 team, has termed the upcoming three-match T20 international series against Zimbabwe as a golden opportunity to evaluate the squad’s bench strength.

With key players, including regular skipper Mohammad Rizwan, rested, the series will spotlight emerging talent. The first match is set to take place in Bulawayo on Sunday.

“This series is all about trying young guns,” Salman stated. “We’ve rested some key players to test our bench strength. While winning is always the goal, this is also a chance for youngsters to shine at the international level. Expect to see some new faces making an impact.”

Captaining the team for an entire series for the first time, Salman emphasized the importance of building on the team’s recent momentum. “After a strong comeback to win the ODI series, we aim to carry that form into the T20s,” he added.

Salman highlighted the pivotal role spinners would play in Pakistan’s strategy.

“We’re adopting an aggressive approach for this series, and our spinners will be key to that plan. We have a variety of options in our spin department, and they’re expected to lead the charge.”

The captain called on young players to seize their chance to impress.

“Now is the time to perform and stake a claim for a permanent spot in the T20 team. These players have immense potential, and I’m confident they can turn this opportunity into remarkable performances.”

Salman didn’t shy away from acknowledging the threat posed by Zimbabwe on their home turf.

“Zimbabwe are a formidable side, especially at home. They have several quality players who can turn the game around in an instant. In T20 cricket, one good innings or one decisive spell can change everything, and Zimbabwe has plenty of match-winners.”

Pakistan’s strategy, according to Salman, will revolve around neutralizing these game-changers.

“If we manage to keep their match-winners in check, we stand a strong chance of winning the series.”

When asked about the team’s game plan, Salman emphasized the importance of focusing on immediate objectives.
