PESHAWAR: Several events were organised in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday to mark the 57th Foundation anniversary of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
The main event was organised at the Governor’s House in Peshawar under the auspices of the Pakistan People’s Students Federation (PSF).
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi highlighted the PPP’s historic commitment to upholding the rights of the people and its significant role in promoting democratic values.
“The foundation of PPP was laid on sacrifices and public service. Zulfikar Ali Bhutto created awareness among the public about their fundamental rights and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto took this struggle to new heights,” he said.
Today, he said, under the leadership of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Asif Ali Zardari, the party remained steadfast in its principles while confronting the challenges faced by the country.
Kundi urged the party workers to remain united and continue advancing the party’s mission.
He assured them that he would uphold the trust placed in him by the party leadership and would not leave any stone unturned in fulfilling his responsibilities.
Speaking at a women’s convention, the Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme and Pakistan Peoples Party and KP Women Wing chief, Robina Khalid, paid tribute to Shaheed Benazir Bhutto saying she led the party through challenging times, focusing on serving the poor and advocating for their rights, much like her father, late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
Rubina Khalid, said that her party was still committed to serving the cause of the poor. She highlighted PPP’s 57-year history of democratic struggle and sacrifices. She said the late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto founded the PPP to shift political power from the elite to the marginalized and deprived classes.
She emphasized that the PPP empowered the people and made significant sacrifices for democracy against dictatorship, which was why its roots remained strong among the masses.
Rubina Khalid also highlighted the party’s achievements, including making Pakistan a nuclear power, the 1973 Constitution, identity cards, passports, the Islamic Summit Conference, and granting voting and political rights to the common man.
She added that the PPP’s foundation and revolutionary reforms united a divided nation, giving the common people a voice and awareness of their rights.
Rubina Khalid also praised the party’s initiatives for the development and prosperity of the underprivileged and backward communities. She said that Asif Ali Zardari upheld national unity with his “Pakistan Khappay” slogan during testing times.
Another ceremony was arranged by the PPP Peshawar City chapter. The local chapter chief, Zulfiqar Afghani, and others spoke on the occasion.
The speakers expressed confidence in the leadership of the party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, affirming that the PPP would continue its mission to strengthen democracy and serve the people.A cake was cut as part of the celebrations.
