GUJRANWALA: Police have started a crackdown on kite and string makers and sellers after the death of a man due to a stray kite string.
Police arrested five people for selling kites and confiscated dozens of kites and twine from them. The accused were identified as Khawar, Mehran, Saddam, Rizwan and Mohsin. Separate cases have been registered against them.
CPO Waqas Nazir said that the crackdown on kite manufacturers and flyers would be intensified to avoid loss of life as many people had lost their lives due to kite string in the past. He said that strict action would be taken against the SHOs concerned if any violation of kite flying was reported in their jurisdictions.
Earlier, Satellite Town police registered a case against unidentified persons on the report of Naeem, brother of deceased Ehtesham. According to the FIR, both brothers were on their way when stray twine seriously injured Ehtesham at Pondanwala Chowk. He died at the DHQ Hospital. Meanwhile, the CM has taken notice of the incident while the CPO has suspended Satellite Town SHO Tariq Mehmood.
TWO SUSPECTS HELD: Model Town police arrested two suspects at the general bus stand here on Sunday. Reportedly, the people saw two suspicious persons and informed police. On information, police rushed to the spot and arrested both the persons. During preliminary investigation, it was revealed that both the persons - Abdul Rehman and Siddique - were students of a seminary in Gujrat. Further investigation is under way.
GIRL KILLED ON ROAD: An eight-year-old girl was killed in an accident on Hafizabad Road here on Sunday. Rabia was crossing a road when a speeding car crushed her to death.
