QUETTA: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced that a by-election to the vacant National Assembly seat NA-262 will be held on January 16, 2025.
The seat fell vacant following the disqualification of Malik Adil Bazai, who had won the NA-262 Quetta-I constituency.
According to the schedule released by the ECP, the returning officer will issue a public notice on December 2. Candidates can submit their nomination papers from December 4 to December 6. A preliminary list of candidates will be published on December 7, with the scrutiny of nomination papers completed by December 12.
Appeals against the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers will be heard by the election tribunal, which will conclude hearings by December 21. The final list of candidates will be issued on December 22, with the withdrawal deadline set for December 23. Election symbols will be allocated on December 24, ahead of polling day on January 16, 2025.
In preparation for the by-election, the ECP has appointed Syed Sami Ullah, Additional Commissioner of Quetta, as the District Returning Officer. Nematullah Tareen, Assistant Commissioner of Revenue, Quetta, will serve as the Returning Officer. Tehsildar Sariab Sherdil and Tehsildar City Hamayun Khan have been designated as assistant returning officers.
