Smog SOPs violation: Eight cases registered; one arrested
LAHORE:Punjab Police have ramped up efforts to curb smog and protect the environment, launching an extensive crackdown across the province.
According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, eight cases were registered and one suspect was arrested in the past 24 hours. Additionally, 438 individuals were fined over Rs7 million, while 28 others received warnings for violations related to environmental regulations. Authorities reported two incidents of crop residue burning, 345 cases involving smoke-emitting vehicles, and five violations by brick kilns.
This year’s anti-smog campaign has seen significant action, with 3,128 arrests and 3,723 cases registered. Police have issued warnings to 7,293 individuals and imposed fines exceeding Rs918 million on 97,144 violators. Violations included 19,998 incidents of crop burning and 32,252 cases involving polluting vehicles. The crackdown has also targeted industrial pollution, with 354 violations from industrial units and 1,384 from brick kilns reported.
