LAHORE:The Punjab government has amended the Single-Use Plastic Production and Consumption Act 2023, issuing a gazette notification to outline the changes.
As per the notification, district plastic management committees will be established in every district of the province. Each committee will include officers from 12 departments, with the deputy commissioner of the respective district serving as the chairperson.
Factories producing plastic shopping bags will now require mandatory registration, with adjustments made to the registration fee structure. The committees will assist manufacturers in complying with regulations and will focus on raising public awareness about reducing the use of plastic shopping bags.
Efforts will also be made to promote alternatives to plastic bags while ensuring continuous coordination with public representatives. Strict action will be taken against those producing substandard plastic bags. This initiative aims to tackle environmental challenges and reduce the excessive use of plastic across Punjab.
