LAHORE:A complete ban on heavy traffic entering provincial capital has been imposed for three days - Friday, Saturday and Sunday - to tackle the rising levels of smog and air pollution in the city.
According to details, heavy vehicles, including loaders and tractor trolleys, will not be allowed entry into the city during this period. To enforce the ban effectively, the Lahore Traffic Police have deployed personnel at 12 entry and exit points under the supervision of DSPs.
Vehicles that are dilapidated, emit black smoke, or lack fitness certificates will be strictly prohibited from entering. However, essential services such as fuel tankers, medical supplies, food transportation, and passenger vehicles will be permitted entry after thorough inspection.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Ammara Athar has emphasised that the implementation of the ban is being ensured with 100 per cent effectiveness. She urged transporters to comply with government directives aimed at reducing smog and improving air quality.
Lahore Traffic Police have formed 41 anti-smog squads to tackle the situation. This year alone, 62,000 heavy vehicles, 13,000 tractor trolleys, and 16,000 cars and motorcycles have been fined for violations.
