Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has emphasised that the country requires young and determined leadership, as timely and bold decisions lead to better outcomes.
Addressing a delegation from the 51st Specialized Training Programme of the Police Service and the 27th Commander Course at the KMC head office on Thursday, he said young and dedicated officers have the potential to change the nation's destiny.
The mayor said efforts are underway to enhance Karachi's infrastructure, including streetlights, bridges, and flyovers. Improved tax collection by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has brought positive changes, with tax collection through K-Electric expected to generate annual revenue of over Rs3 billion. He identified the provision of clean water and the improvement of the sewage system as Karachi's top priorities, with practical steps already being implemented.
Wahab welcomed the delegation and explained that the KMC is the central institution responsible for municipal services in Karachi. He noted that the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation and the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board now fall under the mayor's jurisdiction, facilitating collective and expedited development work in the city.
Complete coordination with other municipal institutions and citizen consultation has resulted in effective and beneficial outcomes, he remarked. The mayor further highlighted the importance of financial stability in running any organisation.
