Police thwart terrorists bid to attack check post in DG Khan

Number of terrorists which is being quoted from 25 to 30 by police officials

DERA GHAZI KHAN: Dera Ghazi Khan police foiled attack of terrorists on an interprovincial check post bordered with KP in the wee hours on Wednesday during which heavy exchange of firing with sophisticated weapons continued for half an hour.

Lakhani check post of Dera Ghazi Khan police, located some 145 kilometers from here in the north located on the border of KP, was targeted with rockets and hand grenades by terrorists. The number of terrorists which is being quoted from twenty five to thirty by police officials.

However, the police force retaliated and thwarted the attack effectively forcing the attackers to flee from the scene getting edge of darkness.

The PRO to RPO Dera Ghazi Khan said that terrorists were earlier spotted with thermal image cameras which led the police for instant response.

However, no causality was reported with operation commanded by Regional Police Chief Capt (r) Sajjad Hassan Khan and Dera Ghazi Khan District Police Chief Syed Ali with back up of quick response force and elite force rushed the location.

Inspector General Punjab Police Dr Usman Anwar announced the cash prize, appreciation certificates for all the officials who took part in repulsing the attack.

Earlier, Jhangi Police Check Post (Hazrat Umar Farooq Check Post) has been facing frequent attacks by the terrorists. On December 14, 2023 head constable Mazhar Iqbal Khan was martyred while Constable Muhammad Ramzan had received multiple bullet injuries while the second attack was successfully foiled by police on January 23, 2024.

The police also equipped with drone camera to identify terrorists on November 13. The attackers targeted the surveillance drone but timely and strong resistance from police pushed them back.
