Role of women in environmental advocacy stressed

PESHAWAR: Speakers on Wednesday emphasized the role of women as leaders in environmental advocacy and literary expression.They were addressing a programme at the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women’s University (SBBWU) as part of the 2nd Edition of the DOSTI Women Literature Festival.

A communication said the event highlighted the university’s commitment to empowering women, promoting environmental awareness, and celebrating intellectual and artistic achievements.

US Consul General in Peshawar Shante Moore was the chief guest on the occasion.Dr Hamida, the chief organizer, stressed the role of women as leaders in environmental advocacy and literary expression.

Dr Sadaf Bashir, the project coordinator, outlined the achievements and objectives of the DNGFE initiative.A directory of 100 women environmentalists was launched to acknowledge their contributions in environmental stewardship.

Prof Dr Hussain Shaheed Soharwardi, Chairman, Department of International Relations University of Peshawar, launched his book “A Divergent Foreign Policy Alliance.”The festival also showcased creative talent with a painting display by Sania Siraj, themed “Creative Nature,” demonstrating the intersection of art and environmental consciousness.

The Departments of Microbiology and Zoology students presented models to raise awareness about environmental challenges.The students from the Microbiology Department secured the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions in the model exhibition, showcasing their innovative approach to environmental issues.

The Women’s University, Mardan’s students exhibited recycled products, emphasizing sustainability.This event was organized by Dr Hamida Tashfeen Zia, Dr Zarmina Baloch, Dr Sumaira Gul, and Sania Siraj and Dr Wilayat Bibi delivered the vote of thanks.
