Directive to complete Nawaz Sharif cancer hospital in one year

LAHORE:Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique on Wednesday said that Infrastructure Development Authority Punjab (IDAP) has been directed to complete the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research project on time. A target of 12 months has been given for the completion of the first phase of the hospital.

The cancer hospital will be expanded in phases and modern equipment will be installed for the treatment and care of patients. The minister stated this while chairing a meeting of the Health Advisory Committee held here in the Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department.

Provincial Minister for Primary and Secondary Healthcare Khawaja Imran Nazir co-chaired the meeting. He said that the first government cancer hospital would have radiotherapy, chemotherapy, endoscopy and other facilities. Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital is not only a project of Punjab but, Inshallah of the whole of Pakistan. Every cancer patient will be provided with the best medical facilities. This cancer hospital will be the first and most modern hospital of its kind in the public sector.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif wants the early completion of this hospital. On this occasion, Secretary Health Azmat Mahmood, Special Secretary Syed Wajid Ali Shah, CEO IDAP Captain (R) Shamir and other officers were present. The meeting was attended by Vice Chancellor King Edward Medical University Prof Dr Mahmood Ayaz, Dr Zahid Pervez, Health Adviser Major General (retd) Dr Azhar Mahmood Kiani and other officers through a video link. Secy Primary and Secondary Healthcare Dept Nadia Saqib, Shahab Khawaja and Member P&D also attended the meeting. IDAP CEO gave a briefing on the project. The meeting discussed the purchase of modern machinery for cancer treatment. On the orders of the CM, instructions were given to expedite steps for the establishment and completion of the hospital.
