Four-day Women’s Literature Festival kicks off at SBBWU

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority (KPCTA) Director General Tashfeen Haider said on Tuesday that the literature festival was a great platform for highlighting women’s literary, cultural and social services.

Addressing the opening ceremony of the second Dosti Peshawar Women’s Literature Festival, he said that organising such festivals would help present a softer and brighter side of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the world.

“Literature has always been a source of peace, harmony and unity, and such events give our women the courage to face the challenges they encounter in the society,” he added.Held at the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University (SBBWU), Peshawar, the four-day festival was jointly organised by the KPCTA, Bank of Khyber, National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) and others.

The event was attended by a large number of faculty members and students, including Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr.Safia Ahmad, Dr Hamida, Sameera Gul, Saniya Siraj, Dr Zarmena Baloch and Fariha Sami.

Tashfeen Haider said that SBBWU was providing an exemplary and positive environment for women in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. “This environment is not only helping to enhance their skills but also presenting a softer and brighter image of the province to the world. Such events are of great importance in today’s world, and activities like these are crucial for women,” he opined.

The official said that, in the current situation where peace and order remained concerns, it was essential to provide women with a safe, positive, and creative environment through literature and culture. He said such festivals offered women opportunities to express themselves and promote their self-confidence and social awareness. The Dosti Peshawar Women’s Literature Festival will continue at SBBWU until November 29.
