Purchase of drones, bomb-proof vehicles and robotic scanners for police proposed
A meeting chaired by Sindh police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon at the Central Police Office Karachi on Tuesday reviewed the measures taken for the maintenance of peace and crime prevention in the province.
It proposed the purchase of modern drones, anti-drone devices, night-vision cameras, bomb-proof devices, robotic scanners and other devices. In separate briefings given by the additional IGs of the Karachi CTD and the DIGs of the Special Branch, finance, IT and CIA, it was noted that a list of modern equipment had been prepared keeping in mind the need of the Sindh police during the recently held defence exhibition.
The meeting was informed that the BDS has modern equipment and experienced manpower; besides, the robotic scanners and equipment for testing explosives kept in the exhibition will further strengthen all the objectives and initiatives of the department. Moreover, the meeting was informed that more than 100 new personnel would soon be added to the BDS department.
The meeting was told that the BDS department has more experience than other law enforcement agencies, but it needs more strength and international-style quality training. The IGP directed that the list of equipment kept in the defence exhibition should be prepared while the relevant institution should also be contacted soon regarding the features, performance and purchase of this equipment.
He said that keeping in view the objective of the elimination of crime in kutcha areas and the establishment of law and order in cities, comprehensive recommendations should be prepared for the purchase of modern equipment and necessary steps should be proposed for review.
Memon said it is the responsibility of the district police and the Crime Scene Unit to secure the accident site and evidence, while it is necessary to regularly inform the police personnel about these measures to deal with the strategy to prevent more accidents there. In addition, all possible steps should be taken for acquiring services of internationally renowned experts for the training of BDS personnel, and in this regard domestic and foreign training and law enforcement agencies should also be contacted.
He directed that all SSPs should not only ensure the use of the Hotel Eye in hotels, passenger rooms and temporary accommodations, but hotel owners should also be obliged to ensure the registration of every passenger in the Hotel Eye software, while the relevant department should be informed about taking legal action against illegal temporary accommodations.
IGP Memon said the SSPs should expedite the ongoing action to arrest absconding and proclaimed offenders, while also ensuring registration of identity cards of the accused in EVS, Hotel Eye, Search App, and other applications.
