ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP), constituted under the 26th Constitutional Amendment, on Monday approved the formation of constitutional benches in Sindh High Court (SHC).
The JCP also approved names of judges for a period of two months. Third meeting of the JCP was held in the Supreme Court chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan/Chairman of the Judicial Commission Justice Yahya Afridi to consider a single point agenda of formation of constitutional benches within the SHC.
It was attended by Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Munib Akhtar (via video link), Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan and Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui, Chief Justice High Court of Sindh, Justice Naimatullah Phulpoto Senior Puisne Judge High Court of Sindh, Azam Nazeer Tarar, Federal Minister for Law and Justice, Mansoor Usman Awan, Attorney-General for Pakistan; Senator Farooq Hamid Naek; Sheikh Aftab Ahmad, Member of the National Assembly; Ms. Roshan Khurshid Barucha, Zia ul Hassan Lanjar, Minister of law Government of Sindh, Akhtar Hussain, Senior Advocate Supreme Court and Qurban Ali Malano, member Sindh Bar Council.
Following an extensive and thoughtful exchange of views, the Commission considered the formation of constitutional benches in SHC and approved the names of nine judges with a majority of 11 to 4 for a period of two months. The judges are: Justice Muhammad Karim Khan Agha (Head of Constitutional Benches), Justice Salim Jessar, Justice Omar Sial, Justice Yousaf Ali Sayeed, Justice Abdul Mobeen Lakho, Justice Zulfiqar Ali Sangi, Justice Ms. Sana Akram Minhas, Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro, Justice Arbab Ali Hakro.
