BARA: A jirga of the Bar Qambarkhel tribesmen on Monday asked the government to establish peace in the Maidan area of the Tirah Valley in the Khyber district.

The elders, including Malik Zahir Shah, Muhammad Khan, Kamaludfin and hundreds of residents, attended the jirga. The speakers said militancy had already affected the local people in the past and they could no longer afford the lawlessness on their land.

“We request all not to harm the infrastructure and people,” Malik Zahir Shah said while speaking at the jirga. He made it clear that the tribal people were peaceful people and wanted to have a peaceful environment in the area.

The elders said tribal people wanted to live in peace and they should not be dragged into any armed conflict. They advised the people in the Bar Qambarkhel not to support any side.
